In 1939 the outbreak of World War II, the Nelson served in a local fleet. In March 1941, the Nelson was involved in assisting in landing a German facility near Narvik, Norway. In the same year, the Nelson was transferred to the Mediterranean to support and cover the Malta convoy. November 1942, participated in the "torch" landing in French North Africa. In July 1943, the Nelson took part in a land-based operation in Sicily as a fire support. In September, it participated in a cover operation in Salerno, southern Italy,September 29, 1943General Eisenhower, representing the Allies, and Marshal Badoglio, representing Italy, signed the Italian surrender agreement on Nelson. In 1944, the Nelson took part in the unprecedented Battle of Normandy. Since then, the Nelson was transferred to the Indian Ocean to participate in the war against Japan. From August to September 1945, the Nelson participated in the Japanese military operations in the Malay Peninsula and the Indonesian Islands.

After the 1945 war, the Nelson battleship was out of active service. The following year was sold for disintegration.
